Delicious and Nutritious Meals for Your Littlest Foodie!

Apple Pie Oatmeal

Apple Pie OatmealYum!  Here’s another recipe that both you and your baby can enjoy together!  If you’re only making this recipe for your baby, there’s no need to puree the apple prior to cooking with the oats – you’ll blend it all together after cooking.  However, if you’re planning on enjoying Apple Pie Oatmeal too, I think it tastes so much better with pureed apples then apple chunks.

  • 2 cups of water + ¼ cup
  • 1 cup of rolled oats – I love Bob’s Red Mill Organic Extra Thick (not the quick cook)
  • 1 large sweet apple (Honey Crisp, Pink Lady) – peeled, cored, cut into ½ inch chunks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

In a medium pot, boil 2 cups of water.  Once water reaches a rolling boil add oats and cook for 5 minutes.

In a food processor or blender, puree apple chunks and ¼ cup of water. Add apple puree to oatmeal along with vanilla and cinnamon.  Cook for additional 10-15 minutes.

Add the amount of Apple Pie Oatmeal that you wish to serve to your baby back to your blender or food processor and puree to desired consistency.  The rest is for you to enjoy!

Makes about 3 ½ cups.

Tip: If you plan to refrigerate portions of the oatmeal to serve to baby at another time, you’ll probably want to thin out the refrigerated oatmeal with breast milk, formula or water.  The oatmeal tends to thicken once cooled.
